BIKE!!!!The 3rd Annual Tour de Lovell in Lovell, Maine was Saturday, August 9th in perhaps the driest morning in over a week of rainy thunderstorm conditions. In ideal low 70-degree temperatures and sunny morning skies, 58 cheerful cyclists participated in this bicycling event to raise monies for the Lovell Recreation Department and the Charlotte Hobbs Memorial Library youth programs. Professional Photos of this years race are provided by Lake Region Photography LLC. The Tour de Lovell tries to draw bicyclists for all ages and bicycle categories with a 5-mile race for ages under 14 years old, and a 20-mile race/tour for road racing and touring bikes. The main event course is an out-and-back course that covers the entire length of Lovell, starting at the New Suncook Elementary School, near the Fryeburg-Lovell town line, and travels on route 5 and 5A through the challenging hills of North Lovell.

Jason Pettengill of North Conway, NH won the overall male champion division with a time of 54 minutes, 10 seconds; and Wendy Whittle of Little Silver, NJ won the overall female division in 1 hour, 5 minutes, 30 seconds. In the kids tour, Wyatt Andreoli of Lovell was fastest male youth with a time of 15 minutes, 16 seconds; and the fastest female youth was Paige Whittle of Little Silver, NJ in 21 minutes, 55 seconds.

The Tour de Lovell has the reputation of being one of the most festive bicycling events around with music, loads of food and refreshments, and a small town support attitude that makes all the participants feel special and appreciated for entering their event. The organizers, the Lovell Recreation and Hobbs Library cannot thank enough: the Lovell Volunteer Fire Department, Fryeburg Rescue, Oxford County Sheriff’s Department, the many volunteer community members, namely Maureen Duggan, Jodie Donnelly, Eric Perkins, Nate York, Pat & Dean Stearns, Albert & Jackie Stearns for course safety; and for set-up, registration and event organization, Roxanne & Gary Craig, Dick Rice, Eddie & Linda Dunlea; and for food and refreshments, Martha Armington, Janice Mendonca, and the Lovell baking committee.

Further thanks goes to TDL title sponsors: Norway Savings Bank, EE Computer Services, Adam’s Family, Fryeburg Area Rotary, Lighthouse Asset Management, Lovell Hardware, Lake Region Fitness, Downeast Bicycles, Louis Garneau – Outdoor Life Solutions, The Bike Shop, Maine Street Graphics, Dutton Real Estate, Pike Industries, Poland Springs, Pearl Izumi, Hannaford, Wicked Good Restaurant, Rosie’s Village Store & Restaurant.
